2018 AAGS Board of Directors Nominees
The American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS) would like to announce our 2018 Board of Directors Nominees. Please read the following biographical information of the 2018 AAGS Board of Directors Nominees in support of your AAGS Ballot decisions.
For President-Elect: Dr. Thomas H. Meyer – Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, University of Connecticut, Storrs
Dr. Meyer was awarded a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 1998, where he was a research associate in the Mapping Sciences Laboratory. He now is a Professor of Geodesy in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut, where he teaches courses in land surveying, geomatics, GNSS surveying, geodesy, and spatial statistics.
Dr. Meyer was named a UConn Teaching Fellow in 2015. He is also a Fellow and the 2016 President of the American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS), a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the National Society of Professional Land Surveyors (NSPS), and the Connecticut Association of Land Surveyors. Dr. Meyer is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Surveying Engineering and Surveying and Land Information Science, has published an undergraduate textbook on geodesy and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles.
For First-Year Director: John Bean – University of Alaska Anchorage
John is an Assistant Professor in the Geomatics department at the University of Alaska Anchorage where he teaches primarily survey field courses. He has been teaching surveying, engineering, and GIS for over 30 years and is a GIS consultant as well. John has a BS in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire and an MS in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut. He is a certified GIS Professional (GISP) and a licensed engineer in the State of Maine.
John is a Fellow of the former American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), a Geographic and Land Information Society (GLIS) Fellow and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of GLIS and the Alaska chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) and is a member of the SALIS Executive Committee. He has twice served as the President of GLIS and chaired the Alaska Surveying and Mapping Conference in 2012. John is presently working toward becoming a licensed surveyor in Alaska.
For First-Year Director: Dr. Mike Mustafa Berber, P. Eng. – Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering at California State University, Fresno
Dr. Berger received his Ph.D. from Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, University of New Brunswick, NB, Canada. Dr. Berber has been a faculty member of Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering at California State University, Fresno since 2014.
His expertise is in Geodesy, Global Navigation and Satellite System, Geodetic Measurement Techniques and Hydrographic Surveying.
AAGS Members will be mailed the 2018 Ballot.
